Oven cleaning in Teignmouth

Teignmouth's older housing is Georgian and Regency terraces along the front with Victorian villas climbing the slopes behind, and a great deal of it is now flats. A kitchen in one of those is typically a converted room on an upper floor with a compact fitted run, an under counter oven and a hob with a recirculating hood above it.

The pattern that matters for this work is the stairs. There is no lift in a Georgian terrace, the staircase is often the original, and the kit for the job goes up and down it twice. That is normal and it is fine, but it is time at each end and it is worth flagging with the address so a morning slot is planned properly.

This stretch of coast takes gales driving up the Channel from the east, which catches out anything built or fitted with only south westerly weather in mind. Salt reaches the whole front, the sea wall overtops regularly, and windows on the seaward side spend the winter closed for good reason.

Inside a kitchen the visible result is on the steel. Cooker fronts, hood canopies and hob trims dull and, near the front, pit. Cleaning takes off the grease that holds the salt in place and polishing restores the finish, but the pitting itself is in the metal and no amount of hours changes that.

Unlike some of the coast, Teignmouth is a real town with a working port, and the housing reflects that: ordinary family kitchens on the higher ground at Broadmeadow and out towards Bishopsteignton, alongside the holiday flats nearer the front.

Those two produce different jobs. A family cooker used daily is a straightforward clean at a sensible interval, usually inside the two hour minimum. A let is changeover work with a hard deadline and a grill pan nobody has looked at. The rate is the same for both; the planning around them is not.

There is a third category here as well: flats let to people who live in them all year but do not own them, which is a large part of the town's housing. Those come up as end of tenancy work at all times of year rather than in a summer rush, and the useful part of the visit is often the photographs rather than the clean, because a check out report turns on what the oven looked like before anybody touched it.

The lanes behind the front are narrow, several are one way, and parking in the season is very difficult. Most bookings have an answer, whether that is a resident's space, a nearby car park with a short walk, or a quiet half hour early in the morning to get kit in.

It is one line in a booking message and it makes the difference between a job starting on time and a job starting late. Nothing about it changes what the work costs.

Water and power are the other two things worth a thought in an older converted flat. Soaking needs properly hot water at the tap, and a kitchen with one socket behind the cooker is worth knowing about in advance rather than at the point the kettle is wanted.
